Luke leads Commonwealth Bank’s economics and markets research team, providing forward-looking analysis on Australia and global economies. He guides research that supports business strategy, investment decisions and public policy understanding across financial markets. His team’s work blends deep economic expertise with advanced data analytics, including the use of AI and one of Australia’s most comprehensive financial data sets, to deliver timely and practical insights for clients and stakeholders.
Before joining CBA, Luke served as Deputy Secretary at the Australian Treasury, where he led economic policy development on macroeconomic issues, productivity, and international economics. He also served as Head of Economic Policy in the Prime Minister’s Office, advising on national economic strategy and long-term reform priorities.
Luke is a regular commentator on economic trends and contributes to national dialogue on inflation, labour markets, fiscal settings and global economic risks. His experience in both government and financial services informs a pragmatic view of economic policy and business cycles.
